High School
Te Kura Tuarua o Tawera|Darfield High School is located in the rural town of Darfield. Our school is only a five-minute walk from the centre of town. The community is very friendly and warmly welcomes international students and visitors.
Darfield
Darfield town is located in the Selwyn district, 40 kilometres west of Christchurch City and near the magnificent Southern Alps. The population is approximately 2000 people, and the town has cafes, a bakery, supermarket, public library, sports fields, public swimming pool, medical centre, pharmacy, post shop, and bank.
Our students and their families enjoy a fantastic rural lifestyle. Many of our local students live on farms in the surrounding area. Horse riding is a popular activity, and there are several places to learn nearby. Our international students also enjoy activities like mountain biking, fishing, and hiking with their host families. Darfield is also close to several ski fields (including Porters and Mt Hutt), golf courses, rivers, forests, and lakes. It is the perfect place to experience the real New Zealand!
Christchurch and Canterbury
Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island, is a vibrant and modern city. It is only a 45-minute drive from Darfield. The population is approximately 380,000. Christchurch offers beaches, events, festivals, shopping, parks, and world-class tourist attractions. Live in Selwyn and enjoy the best of both worlds.
The wider Canterbury region is full of amazing places, and there is plenty to see. Highlights include Arthur’s Pass, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura, Akaroa, Lake Tekapo, and Mount Cook. It is possible for international students to visit all of these places with their host family, on school trips, or through private international student tour companies.
