As expected, the unions representing most of our teachers, teacher aides and some other support staff will fully strike all day this Thursday

This Thursday 23rd October 2025, both of our main unions have confirmed a full strike (8.30-4.30pm): no students will be taught by PPTA members; also, our NZEI members (support staff) will be on strike so we have almost no Teacher Aides and reduced admin capacity.

As a result, we are asking all students to learn at home please – a skeleton staff will supervise any students who cannot safely be at home (buses will run). Please do let us know in advance.

As a reminder, unless negotiations progress significantly, we are expecting the following further strikes from the PPTA:

Wednesday 29th October: ban on all extra-curricular participation by PPTA members. This will affect sport (we’ll confirm details closer to the time); kapa haka will go ahead.

Wednesday 5th November: half day full strike (1.15pm – 3.15pm): NCEA exams are not affected. This is a really tricky day for us and we are liaising with PPTA for some consideration for rural schools as our buses have to run at normal times. We cannot safely open in the afternoon with so few non-members but we are reluctant to close for the day. It is most likely that we will ask parents to collect students at 1.15 pm or to have them learn from home for the day. Non-member teachers will supervise remaining students for the afternoon but, we do not have many, so we can only do the morning if most students are able to leave at 1.15 pm.
