Our
Uniform

Darfield High School’s official uniform is provided by Mainland Uniforms.

Mainland Uniforms is located at 511 Wairakei Road in Burnside, Christchurch. Items can be purchased either in person or online.

The school’s uniform policy underscores that all items may be worn by any student, and if any issue arises regarding uniform compliance, the principal has the authority to make a ruling on behalf of the Board.

Should a student be unable to wear their uniform, they must obtain a pass from their whānau teacher. A comprehensive uniform brochure is currently under development. Additionally, the uniform will undergo another review in 2029.

Uniform Requirements

The uniform serves several important purposes: it promotes equality by lessening competition over clothing, supports a minimum standard of presentation for comfort and hygiene, ensures easy identification of students, reflects positively on the school within the community, and aligns with workplace attire expectations.

Uniform Regulations

Under the Uniform Regulations, families must obtain specific items from the approved supplier, including:

  • a school skort, skirt, shorts, or trousers;
  • a DHS shirt (with options
  • available);
  • a DHS merino jersey;
    and a softshell jacket featuring the DHS crest.

For students in Years 10–13, a blazer is optional but required when representing the school; blazers can be hired if needed.

General Guidelines

General guidelines for uniform appearance emphasise that personal items should be hygienic, safe, and inoffensive, with health and safety considerations in mind. Socks must be plain black and worn above the shoeline, while thermals may be worn underneath as long as they are not visible. Shoes should be plain and black, and students may choose to wear a plain navy cap or bucket hat for sun protection or a plain black beanie in cold conditions.

Physical Education

For physical education (Years 7–10), the designated uniform includes sports socks, plain black shorts, and a DHS PE T-shirt.
